Birds Of Bellwoods + The Pick Brothers Band + T. Thomason

Two smokin’ hot Toronto bands, the Birds Of Bellwoods + The Pick Brothers Band make their first appearances at The Carleton with killer local T. Thomason on Friday, October 6th. Show time is 10 PM and it’s only $10 at the door. People, you might not know these bands but they wouldn’t be playing our club on a Friday night unless they were really, really, really good. Trust us!

Birds of Bellwoods are known for their lyrical storytelling, lush harmonies, and tight musicianship. Comprised of Stephen Joffe (lead vocals/mandolin), Adrian Morningstar (guitar/vocals), Chris Blades (banjo/electric guitar/vocals) and Kintaro Akiyama (upright bass/vocals), the group is currently working on a full-length follow up to their award-winning debut EP The Fifth. With performances at iconic venues including The Horseshoe Tavern, The Mod Club, and Yonge & Dundas Square, as well as festivals such as Boots and Hearts, TURF, NXNE and Canadian Music Week, Birds of Bellwoods are establishing themselves as one of Toronto’s most unique emerging bands.

The Pick Brothers Band have been moving up in the Toronto music scene since their early gigs in Kensington Market and with a number of sold out local shows over the last couple of years, the brothers (yes, they are actually brothers) are beginning to earn a reputation as one the city’s most exciting upcoming acts.
With the independent release of their debut mini LP, Pink Lemonade, in the fall of 2013, The Pick Brothers Band began criss-crossing Canada on a series of small headlining club tours. The captivating blend of compelling writing, dynamic arrangements and a gritty rock and roll spirit captured on Pink Lemonade began to grab the ears of various industry taste-makers. The band was soon opening for the likes of The Sam Roberts Band, The Arkells, Houndmouth and The Temperance Movement, in addition to showcase gigs at regional festivals like NXNE, CMW, Indie Week and QPOP. The band also placed a song (Hey Sugar!) on an internationally syndicated episode of MTV’s Degrassi.

Now, with the release of their new EP Blue Days, the band is poised to grab a national audience with touring and exposure on a much larger scale. The self-produced EP was recorded at Phase One and mixed by Mark Makoway (Hey Rosetta, Great Big Sea, Moist). Blue Days is receiving great early reviews from industry heavyweights such as Alan Cross “…material that displays maturity and a distinctive sound. Best thing to do with these guys is get them out on the road. And when they come back, send them out again!” …and that’s exactly what they intend to do!

“The Pick Brothers Band is one of the hardest working bands to come out of Toronto these past few years. With recent sold out Horseshoe Tavern and Lees Palace shows, they are destined for great things ahead!” Craig Laskey, Collective Concerts

“The Pick Brothers Band display great, mature songwriting with playful, catchy melodies. Lots of depth here!” Dave Spencer, Eggplant Entertainment

“One word to describe The Pick Brothers Band? Incendiary! I see big things for The Pick Brothers in their future!” Matt Cushing, Director of the Jasper Folk Festival

Dirty, lonely, spacey sounds.
T. Thomason is telling the truth for the first time.
UK born, Nova Scotia raised, Toronto runaway.
He’ll play your arena, your theatre, your bar, your basement.
It’s lovely to meet you.
