Brothers + Higher State + Ray Reeves & The Antagonists

Super-cool Rock/HipHop mashup outfit Brothers returns to The Carleton, along with buds Higher State (featuring Three Sheets legendary beat boxer, Eric McIntyre) and Ray Reeves & The Antagonists, for a killer triple bill on Friday, August 4th. Show time is 10 PM and admission is $7 at the door.

After summer performances at Montreal’s M Bar, Evolve, and with Redbull & Yukon blonde, BROTHERS are back at the Carleton for a night of celebration. This sweaty, philosophical dance party boasts an impressive and powerful lineup of local hip-hop for your head bumping needs. Up and comer Ray Reeves and his antagonists will kick off the night, followed by the newly formed super-group, Higher State.

A decade and a half dozen albums later, EMC (Eric McIntyre) and Hermit, along with long-time IMF associate DJ Scotch Rothman (Michael MacMillan) on the 1s and 2s, have returned as Higher State. Anchored by EMC’s saber-rattling production – falling somewhere between sample based hip hop and a live band – their 2017 self-titled debut album is set to be the perfect soundtrack for a chaotic world. The album has an anthemic feel, with bouncing, high energy rhymes addressing an unfolding state of emergency and DJ Scotch Rothman connecting all of the dots.

Higher State forms like a political rap Voltron, making timeless music for a world that is still f@#ked. They are here to build something bigger with woke raps for troubling times.

A bold mix of Hip Hop, R&B, and Rock. Ray Reaves and The Antagonists are a 5-piece group based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Their music captures the vulnerability of young artists and their failed ventures with love, battles with depression, and escaping monotony with their minds, and occasionally their sobriety, intact.
