The Halifax Urban Folk Festival is pleased as punch to welcome The Novaks‘ main man Mick Davis & his Halifax All Star Band + Colleen Brown‘s latest rocking project, Kingston-based Major Love, to The Carleton on Thursday, August 30th. Show time is 8 PM and tickets are $20, available at TicketPro HERE.
Mick Davis is a singer, songwriter, guitarist & producer from St. John’s, Newfoundland, who earned international acclaim with his group the Novaks. Now a prolific solo artist, Mick plays over 150 gigs a year, releasing albums regularly, with 4 independent releases since 2014. Mick is the recipient of MusicNL’s Male Artist of the Year award (2017). He lives in his hometown with his wife Tracy & their cat, Tom Petty.
And oh, if you haven’t listened to Mick’s solo albums, you should, they’re really, really, really good!
MAJOR LOVE is the moniker of Canadian songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Colleen Brown – and a new album featuring members of Scenic Route To Alaska, Jesse and the Dandelions, Elijah Abrams, and Aaron Goldstein. From Edmonton, Alberta by way of Kingston, Ontario, they make soulful pop-rock music for their hoser friends.
With versatile songs and a voice akin to Joni Mitchell, Colleen Brown is relentlessly unafraid. In 2015 she released her 4th solo studio album ‘Direction’ – co-produced by Joel Plaskett – topping college radio charts, and touring Canada, Germany and the UK. Kerry Doole of Exclaim.ca says “she is the rare vocalist that impresses equally on vibrant soul and quiet folk…travelling in Brown’s Direction is one very pleasing trek.”
