Because the Halifax Urban Folk Festival has necessarily had to take a year off in 2016, the festival is doing a few “reminder” gigs so people won’t forget it still exists. To that end, HUFF will present a FREE show at The Carleton on Tuesday, August 23rd featuring one of the country’s best songwriters – from Toronto, Doug Paisley – and brilliant locals – Tyler Messick & Virgil Muir. Show time will be 8 PM.
We had the opportunity to book Doug for HUFF a few years ago and put him on an “up and comers” bill with Australian Jordie Lane for two shows. Anyone who was smart enough to be there on one of those nights knows we weren’t wrong in our assessment and Jordie has been back on numerous occasions since. This year we were offered the chance to have Doug play again and jumped at it. We think more people need to hear him and that’s why we’re making this a FREE SHOW. If there’s one act we just cannot see enough (they seldom play), it’s Tyler Messick and Virgil Muir. It’s not a stretch at all to say we haven’t heard harmonies this sweet since Simon & Garfunkel and if you caught them at last year’s Habitat For Humanity benefit at the Delta, In The Dead of Winter, or at HUFF, you’ll know we’re not kidding. Just another reason this show is not to be missed for anyone who appreciates not only songwriting but rock-solid performance.
