Crimes, Misdemeanors, Admissions and Promises...

Crimes

that was just to catch your attention. We haven't committed any actual crimes but probably will (eventually).

Misdemeanors

here we're guilty, kind of... It's come to my attention - thanks to hearing from many of you - that our newsletter server has been freaked out by the escalating list of subscribers and, horrifically, has been sending some of you insane numbers of copies of our little missive. It wasn't our intention and we're taking steps to stop it! Unfortunately, it's going to take a little while to sort it out (growing pains, don't you know). We apologize profusely and if we'd been able to anticipate the problem, it wouldn't have happened in the first place. Mea culpa (that's, "I'm sorry" in childhood altar boy parlance).

Admissions

our first Jeff Martin show on Monday had to be cancelled due to illness (Jeff's, not ours). This caused a lot of people grief, especially the group who traveled here from Moncton and couldn't stay for the make-up show on Wednesday (tonight). These things happen occasionally and there's no blaming someone who's too sick to properly perform... The upshot of that deal is that we moved the Monday show to Wednesday and although some of you just weren't able to juggle schedules to accommodate that change, we had a really good turnout on both nights and Jeff went to the airport very happy with his inaugural Carleton experience.

For those of you who weren't there,  I've not often seen a Carleton crowd clapping, singing and standing for a performance but I did for both nights of Jeff's performances. I've seen the Tea Party many times but The Carleton shows were the first time I'd seen Jeff solo and they blew my mind. Truly landmark performances at our nascent place.

Promises

I promise we'll get the bugs worked out of our beloved (by at least a few of you) newsletter as soon as humanly possible and if I can get a machine to work it out faster, (screw the humans in the equation) I'll hire a machine to do it and damn the expense, or the torpedoes, or whatever it takes - I promise.

To that end, you'll notice that this newsletter is coming to you in a different format than usual. That's because I'm already working on the above promise! Not sure that this'll be the format I'll keep but we're incorporating some useful information (the gig calendar) and I like the fact it ought to display the same way on everyone's computer/handheld, or at least that's the theory.

Major Show Announcement!

We are thrilled (and, quite frankly, astonished) to announce that - in conjunction with our friends at StanFest - the legendary Oysterband will be playing two very special acoustic shows at the Carleton! That's correct. This band is used to playing to thousands of fans in Europe (Bruce Guthro freaked when I told him they were coming) and these shows are going to be very, very, very cool. So cool in fact that we already have fans of the band flying in from places like Winnipeg and Boston - I kid you not.

How lucky are you to live in Halifax so you don't have to spring for airfare and hotels!?!

The shows are on Tuesday, April 6th and Wednesday, April 7th. Show time will be 9 PM and tickets are $35. Dinner reservations (as always) are recommended for preferred seating. I do believe that StanFest will be using the occasion to announce some of this year's lineup as well as giving away some weekend passes to the event. Awesomeness, seriously... [VIDEO HERE]

Imminently Looming Shows

Po'Girl & JT Nero - Sunday March 21st & Monday, March 22nd - 9 PM - $20

These shows are going to absolutely knock your socks off. Po'Girl's appearance last year at our place was, without doubt, one of the highlights of the year. They're back with a new album and are bringing an amazing opening act with them. Check out the links and then get your tickets. You'd have to be in traction to miss this!

Antoine DuFour & Don Ross - Tuesday, March 23rd - 9 PM - $20

People are stoked to see Don Ross - as they should be! - after all, he's twice won the world fingerstyle guitar championship (the only person to ever win it twice). So a show with just Don would be good enough, right? Well, we're upping the ante. Don is actually the opening act and is doing that favour to draw attention to his heir apparent, Antoine DuFour, a young player from Quebec [VIDEO HERE] who is Sidney Crosby to Don's Mario Lemieux. This kind of bill doesn't come along every day!

Thor Kristinsson - Wednesday, March 24th - 9 PM - $15

Last time I saw an act named Thor, it was at Larry's Hideaway in Toronto and the performance culminated in the artist blowing up a hot water bottle like a balloon until it burst. Thankfully, this Thor is not that kind of artist! This Thor recently moved to Nova Scotia from Iceland and has an impressive musical resume that includes credits in theatre productions from London's West End. His original music is bursting with melody and his voice is terrific.

He's new to town and I'd like to get folks out to the show. Obviously I'd prefer it if you bought tickets (as would Thor!) but I'm going to contest some guest list action because I want people to see him. Reply to this and I'll put your name in the proverbial hat!
