    7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

West-coast-based Skye Wallace, Toronto’s Little Coyote and Peterborough’s Melissa Payne bring an awesome girls’ night out to Halifax and The Carleton on Wednesday, June 13th. Live music gets underway at a civilized 7:30 PM and admission is only $10 at the door.

Skye Wallace is what happens when a classically trained singer with east coast roots discovers punk rock in their youth.  Hailed coast to coast as a “national treasure” (Sad Mag), Skye Wallace is based out of Toronto, Ontario.

Her voice and sound is a force to be reckoned with. Her newest album Something Wicked, produced by Jim Bryson, was listed as one of Vancouver Weekly’s Best Albums of 2016 and CBC’s  Top 8 Albums You Need To Hear This Month. Dubbed by CBC’s Stephen Quinn a “kick ass record“, Something Wicked will “burn you to the ground” (Vice/Noisey)!

Little Coyote is Teagan Johnston. Her music career on the west coast of Canada where she released her first EP, Winter’s Child, and worked with local artist Aidan Knight. Teagan relocated to Toronto, ON at the age of 19 to start Little Coyote. The band’s sound and aesthetic is based on Whitehorse, YT which is Teagan’s birthplace. Additional influences include Toronto-based bands Metric, Stars and Broken Social Scene. ‘Little Coyote’ is Teagan’s Yukon nickname and musical alias that she also shares when playing with bandmates Byron Patterson, Mike Poisson.

Ennismore, Ontario’s Melissa Payne has truly left her mark on the musical landscape, and she’s just getting started. Her background in old time fiddle and traditional celtic music has evolved into a blossoming solo career, including three full length albums, including the just-released Darker than your Dark. Her live performances have garnered her critical acclaim, and notable guest collaborators like Blue Rodeo’s Greg Keelor, James McKenty, Matt Mays, Natalie MacMaster, cellist Nathaniel Smith and Jimmy Bowskill of The Sheepdogs, have her working with some of the biggest names in Canada, and beyond.

Darker than your Dark explores an entirely different realm from the pages of her songbook. Nine original tracks that take the listener through the peaks and valleys of the life of this highly emotive artist who is just gaining her stride. Her honest and vulnerable approach to the songs that comprise her latest effort are sure to win over her dedicated fans and first time listeners alike.
