The remarkable Terra Spencer celebrates the release of her new album, Sunset, with a show at The Carleton on Thursday, November 14th. Terra will be supported by a full band of exceptional musicians: Mike Farrington (bass), Tyler Messick (guitar), and Geoff Arsenault (drums). Live music gets underway at 7:30 PM and tickets are $35 + HST.
Bad ideas, VCRs, crumbling factories, terrible therapists, hairy dogs, wrinkled shirts, French fries, questionable tattoos…all are fair game for Nova Scotian funeral director-turned-songwriter Terra Spencer. And the songs are good ones, judging from the stack of awards her three albums have received and from the calibre of her collaborators, which include Ben Caplan, Matt Andersen, and David Francey, who welcomed Terra as a co-writer and performer on his JUNO-winning album The Breath Between. Recently her song “Brick and Mortar” was named the winner of the Commonwealth Song Contest out of 20,000 entries. Terra will follow up Old News, her award-winning collaborative album made with Ben Caplan, with a new solo project in September 2024. Although her butterscotch voice, deft fingerstyle guitar, and gospel-charged piano make her a formidable musician, it’s her onstage ease and crackling wit that make each show feel like a knee-to-knee conversation in a room of 5 or 500.
