If Randy Newman and Bobbie Gentry had a baby, it might grow up to be Terra Spencer. Terra spent much of her youth in a basement in Summerville, Hants County, playing piano and secretly strumming her granddad’s guitars. While working as a funeral director, she began touring in 2014 as a vocalist and guitarist with acclaimed folk country musician Ryan Cook. Along the way she unlocked a passion for songwriting, co-writing with Ryan for his 2017 release, Having A Great Time, and collaborating with friends and mentors including David Francey, Dave Gunning, and Mike T. Kerr.

Terra combines her storytelling songs with skillful finger-style guitar and gospel piano, but audiences are equally drawn to her onstage ease and sly sense of humour. Nominated for 2019 Music NS Americana Recording of the Year, Other People’s Lives is Terra’s debut album, co-produced with longtime friend Jake Smith near her home in Windsor, NS. Her self-produced followup album, Chasing Rabbits, is a collection of winter songs set for release in November 2020, featuring Halifax folk duo The Bombadils and Bela String Quartet.
