Zulkamoon + D’Ambrosia

Spanish/English fusion outfit Zulkamoon with D’Ambrosia take over The Carleton stage for some dance-able tunage on Thursday, August 1st. Show time is 9 PM and admission is $8 at the door.

Mexico City native Inti Gonzalez moved to Nova Scotia in 2008 looking for like-minded musicians to create music that would fuse rhythm, poetry and the spirit of dance. After two years of searching and playing with some of the best artists Halifax has to offer, Inti came across four veteran musicians who shared his vision. The result was Zulkamoon.

This exciting band blends genres like cumbia, reggae, ska, and traditional Mexican folk music with funk, jazz, blues, and rock. Truly the best of both worlds, Zulkamoon incorporates both Spanish and English lyrics over infectious, dance grooves that appeal to young and old alike. This up and coming band has toured across Mexico, performed at the Halifax Jazzfest, and is a local favourite the Seaport Market. Where Zulkamoon goes, dance follows.

D’Ambrosia‘s first album, wild blue, was released this past May. Kim D’Ambrogi, the primary songwriter, laces the songs with a sultry vocal sway, enriched by a psychedelic rock and country blues sound from the band. The songs have come to fruition working with Mike Trask on arrangement and production, along with collaborations with a number of savvy and talented Maritime musicians. Over the past few years, D’Ambrosia has performed at a number of local venues and small NS festivals with Kim leading on vocals, accompanied by members of Second Band. The album was recorded at Halifax’s Echo Chamber in 2015, and its full release has been greatly anticipated in the meantime.
