Birthdays & Bouncing Back: A Party & Film Screening – FREE!

  • January 10, 2026
    8:00 pm - 11:30 pm

Are birthdays worth publicly celebrating? We think some are; in this case Kirk Lahey (recently retired from Universal Music after 33 years and acknowledged by those in the know as “the hardest working man in show-biz”) born on January 8th, turning 65, and Carleton Program Director Mike Campbell, born on January 12th, who seriously no longer cares how old he is (after all, how old is dirt?)

Because January 10th falls exactly in the middle of those two auspicious dates, The Carleton has decided to throw a party, mostly to honour Kirk’s official entry into geezerdom (Campbell is well past that) starting at 8 PM. The event is 100% FREE and we hope that folks who know them, folks who’ve maybe heard of them, and even folks who have no idea who they are, might turn up for a good time. We mean, there’s probably cake involved, right?

The “screening” being referenced has to do with a documentary length film put together by noted author/producer/documentarian/HUFF board chair, Geoff D’Eon, based on his coverage shot for The Carleton’s newsletter during Mike’s extended stay at the Halifax Rehab & Arthritis Centre while he was recovering from paralysis and spinal fusion in early 2023. This will be a one-time public viewing and while it will no doubt be an affront to Campbell’s dignity, we’re pretty sure it will be educational and, more importantly, entertaining.

We’re also happy to report that following the screening there will be a live performance by a very special guest!

If you are planning on attending, we suggest you reserve a spot by contacting reservations@thecarleton.ca.
