Internationally renowned shanty and folk singer Chris Ricketts returns to The Carleton – along with special guest Callehan – for another rollicking night of Sea Songs & Stories on Thursday, August 14th. Show time is 7:30 PM and tickets are $20 + HST.

Internationally acclaimed 21st century shanty singer, Chris Ricketts delivered a new album of shanties and self penned songs in 2020 called ‘Songs In The Key Of Sea‘. Widely loved, this album re-booted Chris’ love of performing and writing. As well as performing within the UK, Chris has appeared at top folk and shanty festivals in Germany, Poland, Canada and France.

Chris mastered his craft working cruise ships after being a semi-finalist in the BBC Radio 2 young folk awards.. Now a touring musician and teacher in secondary schools, Chris’ passion for performing allows him to travel the world with his self-penned songs and versions of traditional shanties.

2023’s release ‘Go to Sea No More’ was Chris’ 5th studio album, arguably the best yet! Chris crafted a solo acoustic album that truly represents his live shows, something that many fans have asked to be captured on a CD.

Quick-witted comedy, a unique delivery of sea songs and clever songwriting, the live show never fails to satisfy an audience.

Imagine; the stage a campfire, the story a song, and raising a glass with new friends…

Callehan is Tony Trimper. Tony chose the name Callehan as his band name and music persona to honor his Irish ancestory. Callehan have been local ambassadors of Maritime Music since the 2018 release of the Gourley Shanty Riot. This infamous 1856 Irish riot in Nova Scotia is just one of the tales Callehan has resurrected in songwriting. Callehan’s collaborations include Ashley MacIsaac, Terra Spencer, Christina Martin, and many more.
