Moira & Claire and Housewife (Brighid Fry, ex of duo Moscow Apartment), along with special guest, young newcomer Edie Hunter, perform at The Carleton on Friday, August 8th. Live music gets underway at 8 PM and tickets are $26 + HST. A dollar from every ticket sold goes to Music Declares Emergency.
About the Tour:
Starting on the East Coast of Canada in early August, the tour will incorporate ferries, trains and (hopefully) an electric minivan to bring this unique triple headline tour into venues across the country. This stripped down “acoustic” tour will feature these young, award winning artists without their backing bands and let the songs shine through. The tour is in partnership and support of Music Declares Emergency Canada and will highlight sustainable touring practices, slow touring and the beautiful land and nature found in Canada. The four (two solo and one duo) young artists hail from the Grat Lakes and the Atlantic. Collectively they have been nominated and or won Canadian Folk Music Awards, Music Nova Scotia Awards, East Coast Music Awards, SOCAN Young Songwriter of the Year, SOCAN Her Music Award, the Canadian Songwriting Competition, the INDIES, Toronto Independent Music Awards and many more. They have been played on CBC, BBC and collectively have more than 10 million streams and nearly 175,000 followers on Tik Tok and more than 26,000 followers on Instagram.
Nova Scotia’s Moira & Claire write lighthearted, indie folk-pop songs that appeal to East and West Coasters and everyone in between. The sisters have been singing together for longer than their professional careers, their voices harmonizing in the kind of familial magic that only living together your entire life can attain. Their debut project “I’m not usually this forward but…” was nominated for three 2023 East Coast Music Awards as well as two 2023 Music Nova Scotia Awards. They were also nominated for Single of The Year at the 2024 The Canadian Folk Music Awards. On TikTok, Moira & Claire have gained over 150k followers worldwide. Their most-viewed video to date, with 2.9M views, is a cover of indie-folk artist Noah Kahan’s Stick Season. Kahan has since publicly praised the duo, saying “Moira & Claire rock”, and “they never miss”.
Housewife is the Canadian indie rock/pop solo project of critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Brighid Fry (she/they). 22 year old Fry is queer and an ally, an activist and champion of the environmental organization Music Declares Emergency. Fry has been a staple in the Toronto indie scene since taking part in Girls Rock Camp when she was 8 years old. She has released five EPs, starred in the indie short musical Polly and the Pockets and has had her music placed in numerous TV shows and films. In 2021, Fry was one of the co-founders of Music Declares Emergency Canada. She participated in the Creative Climate Leadership program, spoke at the first ever Music Climate Summit and in 2022 she was named one of Canada’s top 25 environmentalists under 25 by the Starfish Project. Brighid’s songs have been streamed more than 5 million times and she has shared the stage with Serena Ryder, The Barenaked Ladies, Broken Social Scene, Joel Plaskett, Feist, Whitehorse and toured as an opener for Good Lovelies, Paolo Nutini, Rural Alberta Advantage and Lauran Hibberd. Brighid will be opening for Sam Roberts Band and Metric as well as playing as one of the headliners on the Main Stage at Toronto Pride in June. “Housewife is a revelation…A glorious combination of Blondshell, Julia Jacklin and soaring US songwriter charm, it’s an emphatic introduction to an artist already screaming ‘future favourite’”. – DORK
