One of our favourite humans, Norma MacDonald, brings her band with her – along with special guest Kaya Fraser – when she returns to The Carleton on Friday, October 24th. Live performance – including some new material from her forthcoming album – gets underway at 8 PM and tickets are $30 + HST

Norma MacDonald is a veteran of the East Coast alt-country/folk scene. Her six albums to date, stretching back to 2005’s Nothing Is Where It Was, have garnered critical praise and a slew of award nominations in Canada, the U.S and Europe. RnR Magazine in the U.K called her most recent album In Waves (2023) “a truly beautiful record…an absolute delight”. Norma is currently working on her seventh album and will be debuting some new songs, as well playing favourites from her 20-year back catalogue with her 5-piece band on The Carleton stage on October 24th. Her engaging songwriting, golden voice and sharp wit are sure to make this a show you won’t want to miss.
Singer-songwriter Kaya Fraser is new to Halifax’s music scene, but her ties to Canadian folk music run deep. Montreal-raised, the daughter of Allan Fraser (of 70s folk duo Fraser & DeBolt), Fraser impressed critics and won fans with her debut, Tremor and Slip (2007). Her 2010 followup, Open Horizon, produced by Kim Deschamps (Blue Rodeo, Cowboy Junkies), was praised as “a journey of considerable emotional range” (Exclaim!). After a hiatus from music for some years and living in several different cities across Canada, Fraser recently returned to the stage at the 2024 Ottawa Bluesfest, bringing the room to a hush with well-crafted songs, soulful vocals and expressive guitar. Now settled on the east coast, she is shaping her long-awaited third album.
“Shockingly good … elements of country, soul, and sultry acoustic pop are combined with sophistication and polish … Kaya Fraser’s moving songs don’t really need anything more, except to be discovered.” – The Montreal Gazette
