See you on June 25!

(Halifax, NS) – As Nova Scotia restaurants re-open, Halifax’s multi award-winning live music and food venue The Carleton (1685 Argyle Street, downtown Halifax) is pleased to announce it will re-open its doors and summer patio on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, beginning this Thursday, June 25 at 4 p.m.

Following all public health guidelines and adhering to the recommended six-foot physical distancing, The Carleton will offer live music, full table service and a take-out menu option.

“It’s been too long, my friends! We so look forward to hosting you in our (physically distanced) dining room and patio starting June 25, and especially to share live music!” says owner, Karen Spaulding. “The tunes will be seated and acoustic for a while yet, but oh my…the joy of seeing and hearing our local artists in person again. Can’t wait!”

Opening weekend, The Carleton is delighted to present free evening performances by Michael Dalton (Thursday, 6 – 9 p.m.), Jordan LeBlanc (Friday, 6 – 9 p.m.) and the Tevon Tynes Trio (Saturday, 7 – 10 p.m.).

Gear up for the weekend with two very special online shows:

At 7 pm ADT Tuesday June 23, The Carleton will host a virtual album release concert with jazz vocalist and former member of Canadian a cappella group The Nylons, Micah Barnes. Barnes is celebrating the release of his new album, Vegas Breeze and will perform live from his home studio in Toronto on The Carleton’s Facebook page . He will perform new music, fan-favourites by The Nylon’s as well as songs from his chart-topping recording, New York Stories.

At 7 pm ADT Wednesday June 24, we welcome Tyler Messick (Museum Pieces) to Live at The Carleton. This will be the last show in this segment of mini-concerts and Q&A’s with local musicians via Facebook Live that allowed us to maintain our commitment to live music throughout the COVID-19 lockdown.

Black Out Tuesday

The Carleton is still closed to gathering – but we have music online and food & drink at home

[28-May-20 6:00 pm] Exciting news that restaurants and bars are permitted to open Friday June 5! And it looks like Argyle Street will be pedestrian-friendly all summer! Because The Carleton is not only a restaurant but also (not permitted so far) a lounge and a live music venue, we have a LOT to sort out and prepare. June 5 may not bring The Carleton’s familiar inside service… but it will mark our 2nd week of curbside pickup!

[19-May-20 10:00 am] We are gearing up ‘The Carleton at Home‘! Starting Thursday May 21, order online from our weekly food and drink menu until 3pm Tuesday and pickup 1685 Argyle curbside 4-7pm Friday.

[10-May-20 9:45 pm] We’ve had to postpone another HUFF brunch with Carleton Stone and special guests, so are facing the music (ha!) and saying so long to May for onsite shows. However, don’t forget our Wed and Sat Live at The Carleton streams featuring 4-song sets by local artists. Many thanks to Mark Robins (Halifax Presents contributing editor) and Jon Cornwall (audio man extraordinaire) for their ongoing efforts to harness Facebook Live technology to deliver The Carleton’s great sound.

[06-May-20 1:00 pm] Hope you’re all staying safe, sane, and healthy. Missing our team, guests, artists and the great experiences we share at The Carleton!

[20-Apr-20 4:00 pm] Acknowledging at least another 2 weeks off the grid.

[06-Apr-20 7:00 pm] Are you keeping track? We recognize that April in person isn’t going to happen. However, keep your eye on Live At The Carleton, your FB live local musician fix every Wed and Sat at 7 pm.

[30-Mar-20 9:30 pm] The sign on the Carleton door now reads “closed until further notice” but we are still managing moment to moment. Today we’ve retreated at least til April 17.

[20-Mar-20 11:00 am] Jill Barber has just cancelled her east coast tour. New dates will be announced shortly and all previously purchased tickets will be honoured. We at The Carleton vow to remain optimistic, so looking to re-open on Thursday April 9 with local 80s superband Maximum Overdrive.

[16-Mar-20 4:30 pm] I knew there would be updates, but not so soon, nor so drastic.

====

In light of artist cancellations, staff availability, and the whole Halifax downtown scene slowly shutting down, we have decided that it is best and safest for all to close The Carleton for a few weeks.

If the world cooperates, we’ll be open again on Thursday April 9.

Thanks and big love (from 6 feet away!) to our team who have been thoughtful and patient and super-sanitized during these tough times.

To our many supporters: listen to those playlists, dream of Carleton frites, and we’ll see you as soon as permitted!

Introducing…

We’re excited to introduce ‘The Carleton at Home’… a family-style ‘heat and eat’ menu for Friday curbside pickup.  Let us bring our kitchen to yours as Chef Mathias and his team work their magic with fresh local ingredients and you just pop in the oven when you get home.

Click HERE or on the menu to place your order ONLINE. The online order page looks suspiciously like our usual show ticket page. Ya gotta get creative, so please forgive any strange wording or layout!

ORDER: Before 3pm on Tuesday, May 26 – make your selections and pay by credit card.

PICKUP: Between 4 and 7pm on Friday, May 29 – stop by The Carleton, 1685 Argyle Street to pick up your order.  We’ll bring it right to the patio to adhere to physical distancing requirements and get you quickly on your way.

ENJOY: The menu has been designed so everything can be heated together in one oven at one temperature.  Enjoy a home-cooked meal without the fuss, maybe with a bottle of wine or ice-cold beer or cider.

HELP OUR ARTISTS: With the music industry experiencing very challenging times, those placing orders will have the option to make a donation to a cause close to The Carleton’s heart, the Unison Benevolent Fund. The Unison Benevolent Fund is a non-profit, registered charity that provides counselling and emergency relief services to the Canadian music community. This organization helps professional music-makers in times of hardship, illness or economic difficulties.
