The Carleton’s Chef Dolente Competes in Canada’s Great Kitchen Party 2019

Canada’s Great Kitchen Party is a national culinary competition with over 100 Chefs and 5,000 guests gathering annually across twelve cities in Canada. With a 13 year successful history, this evening of celebration and elevation of Canadian culture in food, sport, and music has raised $15 million for Canadian athletes and as of 2018, the impact has expanded to include music and food programs for youth.

Reigning silver medalist of Canada’s Culinary Championship 2018 for Nova Scotia, Chef Dolente, and his culinary team will once again compete in Canada’s Great Kitchen Party, an evening of celebration and elevation of Canadian culture in food, sport and music, set for Friday, October 18 at the Cunard Centre in Halifax. Tickets available HERE.

Behind every great Chef, is a great culinary team and Chef Dolente’s will be supporting him in full during the competition.  With the absence of skilled hands in our kitchen at The Carleton this Friday, October 18, Chef Dolente has graciously created a Snack-able Menu for guests to enjoy.

The Snack-able Menu will be available from the time we open for Happy Hour, at 4pm and all throughout Geoff Kennedy’s free acoustic show at 6pm, as well as the Second Line Parade Album Release at 10pm!

Of course, the bar is still open.  And don’t worry, the full menu will be back Saturday, October 19th!

  • Cheese Board 12
  • Charcuterie Board 12
  • House Made All Dressed Kettle Chips 5
  • Cajun Spiced Bar Nuts 5
  • Marinated Olives 5

A Great Time for a Great Cause

On August 21, our Carleton was proudly involved in hosting The “No Time for That” Anti-Bullying and Mental Health Benefit Concert alongside its founder, singer-songwriter, Elsie Morden.

100% of proceeds from the benefit concert went towards ensuring that the Anti-Bullying Society’s “No Time for That” Tour can continue to deliver powerful presentations about bullying prevention, mental health awareness and youth empowerment to schools free of charge. So far they have been to 600 schools across Canada including 71 schools in Nova Scotia.

We, at The Carleton, have no time for bullying and are cheering on Elsie for her efforts in continuing to create awareness and change with this important anti-bullying movement. You rock Elsie!

A decade of HUFF

Mike Campbell talks about his journey over the past ten years with HUFF on Global, August 22, 2019.

We’re feeling the love!

As seen in Flightnetwork’s Article – 19 Spots to Eat, Drink, and Be Merry in Halifax, by Keith Perrotta.

The Carleton combines two of my favorite things – great music and amazing food! Housed in one of the city’s oldest stone buildings (built-in 1760) it’s a refreshing blend of historical and modern as well. Both an award-winning music venue and seriously delicious restaurant, this place makes for a great night. Talented chef Michael Dolente has made this place a foodie hotspot while live musical talent keeps your ears happy too! It’s the perfect recipe for a night out with friends or that special someone sampling the culinary and musical delights of Halifax. Pro tip: Happy Hour is from 4-6 so be sure to get some super affordable bites and drinks before dinner! Their menu is filled with local and fresh pickings and is sure to please.”

We are very proud to be a part of this great guide for those looking for a true Halifax experience.

Say Buenos Días To The Mañana Burger During Burger Week 2019

It’s almost that time of year again! The Coast’s Burger Week runs from March 28th to April 3rd this year. This city-wide bonanza sees restaurants offer a one-of-a-kind burger creation with proceeds going to Feed Nova Scotia.

The Carleton’s Mañana burger is P.E.I. beef, smoked cheddar, fried egg, peameal bacon, pickled peppers, and habanero aioli, on a croissant bun. Its got a kick but it’s not too spicy!

For $10 you get the Mañana burger and The Carleton donates $1 to FeedNS. Add a side of our famous frites or green salad for $5 and another $1 goes to FeedNS! Add a Nine Locks Dirty Blonde for another fiver… and you guessed it, another $1 to FeedNS!

We thrilled to participate in Burger Week 2019 and we’ll have special hours for the 7 days of burger madness. On Saturday, March 30, and Sunday, March 31, we’ll be open at noon to start serving The Mañana burger. On Monday, April 1, we’ll be open from 4-8PM for more burger opportunities!
