Singer/songwriter/storyteller Séan McCann – The Shantyman – returns to The Carleton with a new set of songs on his Sink Or Swim tour on Friday, July 3rd. Armed with his guitar and an unwavering commitment to truth, he’ll take the stage at 8 PM to invite the audience into a shared space of reflection, resilience, and release, where singing isn’t optional, it’s essential! Tickets (while they last) are $50 + HST.

Séan McCann is a singer, songwriter, and a storyteller best known as a founding member of the iconic band Great Big Sea. Over the past decade, his solo work has carved out a powerful and deeply personal path – one rooted in honesty, recovery, commun ity, and the belief that music is meant to be whared with, not performed for audiences.
His live shows blend original material with beloved GBS favourites, inviting audiences to sing along, reflect, and reconnect with themselves and one another. On his latest tour, sink Or Swim – Singing Through The Noise – McCann sings brave new songs alongside trusted classics to speak directly to the heaviness of our times. It’s a show about staying afloat in an increasingly noisy world, finding breath when everything feels urgent, and remembering that collective singing is both grounding and healing.
Whether in churches, theatres, or community halls, Séan’s performances are less about spectacle and more about presence – creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and a little less alone.
