Angelique Francis has established herself as a bona fide star on the Canadian Blues, Soul, Jazz and Folk scene. Her most recent album Not Defeated features the incredible Grammy Award winners Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, and Eric Gales. Not Defeated was nominated for Eight 2026 Canadian Blues Music Awards, an (American) Blues Music Award, and a Canadian Folk music Award for song of the year. Her previous album Long River won the 2023 JUNO Award for Blues Album of the Year.
Angelique’s soulful Smoky vocals and instrumental techniques are reminiscent of a bygone era, but with a unique and modern sensibility. Within her vocal style, you can hear influences of legends like Big Mama Thornton, Koko Taylor, Aretha Franklin, Bessie Smith and many more. Her instrumental abilities call to mind Willie Dixon on the bass, Sister Rosetta Thorpe on guitar, Big Mama Thornton on the Harmonica and Aretha on the piano.
The Angelique Francis Band were named Performers of the Year by Folk Canada, and were the recipients of 2 Maple Blues Awards (6 total nominations), a SOCAN Award, A Capital Music Award, an Ontario Folk music Award, 2 Canadian Folk Music Award nominations, and so on. They were a feature act at the Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea festival (Caribbean and Alaska editions), Grolsch Blues Festival (Germany), Sighisoara Blues Festival (Romania), Massey Hall, Montreal Jazz Festival, Mariposa Folk Fest, Calgary Folk fest, Canmore Folk Fest, Ottawa Blues Festival, Ottawa Jazz Festival, London Music Festival, Mont-Tremblant Blues Festival, Stagecoach series (California), Philadelphia folkfest, and the list goes on.
