Welcome to the long weekend! Bassist Willem Paynter brings his killer Jazz oufit, The Hardbop Collective, to The Carleton on Saturday, August 4th for the enjoyment of our collective audience. It’ll be a cool night, so get there early to get in on the action. Show time is 10 PM and admission is an affordable $8 at the door.

Jazz bassist Willem Paynter (b. 1988, Fredericton, NB) has been a part of the music scene in Atlantic Canada since 2005. A festival mainstay, Willem is a first call bassist and bandleader in the Halifax region and consistently blows away audiences, performing with the who’s who of Canadian Jazz. In addition to winning Best Jazz Artist in Halifax’s weekly “The Coast”, Willem’s first full-length album Wise Guy was nominated for the 2018 ECMA for Jazz Recording of the Year.

The Hardbop Collective is a group of Atlantic Canada’s most acclaimed musicians. Consisting of a wide roster of talent, the Hardbop Collective features saxophones Chris Mitchel and Martin Davidson, keyboardist Matt Myer and drummer Mike Carroll. The music they perform is a mix of contemporary Hardbop in the vein of 1950’s Blue Note recordings and modern jazz.
